IBM's total patents in the year 2009 almost four times more than the amount obtained by Hewlett-Packard and exceed the amount obtained by Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Oracle, Apple, Accenture and Google combined.
IBM also announced that for the first time, IBM will offer knowledge of software invention and patent portfolio management to clients who want to improve the management capacity of intellectual property rights (IPR) strategy to support innovation-based growth. In addition to patent the findings, 4000 IBM has published a technical invention, which was released independently and anyone can use for free.
As part of IBM's plan to help companies build and support the culture of invention and innovation, IBM will provide access to knowledge and portfolio management software patents and inventions through agreements with clients. This is expected to stimulate growth by providing support for the development of a patent portfolio of high value.
